Recruitment in The Philippines

Nurse school (Belgium) collaborate to fillin high-demand vacancies. This in the healthcare sector, by actively recruiting from non-EU countries.

In puirsuit of this goal, an ethical reciprocal model is being developed for the three stakeholders: the country of origin, Flanders and the cadidate him/herself.

Maalaga’s project costs are born by employers. The candidates participating in this project do not bear any costs.

How do we recruit in The Philippines?

The Maalaga project follows a rigorous selection process:

  • Initial selection by SMU (pilot group)

    SMU conducts the first round of screening in the pilot group

  • Psychological test by Chinta (in partnership with Hudson)

    Successful candidates proceed to a psychological assessment

  • Interview with the Future Employer and the teachers of nursing school

Once selected, candidates becomes part of the Maalaga project.

They start with the Dutch language courses at the 1st of July.

By the end of Septembre, candidates must achieve a Dutch level of 2.1. Continous assessments by Dutch teachers monitor the progress. Insufficient language level at the end of September may impact participation in the Maalaga training program. This is also communicated towards all candidates.

Requirements for qualified staff

• Certified Nurse Diploma (BSN) from a recognized institution.

• Experience to be evaluated in the selection process.

• IELTS overall band score of minimum 6 and preferably 7.

• OET score of minimum C+ and preferably B.

• Male and female.

• The candidate is preferable not older than 35 years at the start of the selection

• Keen interest in elderly, geriatric and psychiatric care (prime focus on geriatric care)

• Willingness to work in a elderly care home

• Willingness to follow a one year additional training programme about geriatric care, psychiatry and the Belgian health care system, in combination with parttime work in a elderly care home as an Health care assistant.
